"Not Good Enough" - Everton FC 2025/26 Squad: Player-by-Player Breakdown

After a phenomenal final game at Goodison Park on Saturday, all eyes now turn to an incredibly important summer, with many important decisions still to be made.

Going into the summer, Everton will have just 12 first-team players, after both loan players leave the club, alongside the expiry of player contracts.

With finances still tight, David Moyes will have to think carefully about which players he would like to keep at the club for next season and his team's transition to Bramley-Moore Dock.

Here is what I believe should happen to every EFC player this coming summer:

Goalkeepers:

Jordan Pickford – Keep

England's number 1 is arguably still Everton's best player, and there is no question that he should be part of the first team walking out at the new stadium.

João Virgínia – Let Go

With Harry Tyrer returning to the club after a successful loan move in League 1, it is time for the Portuguese keeper to find first-team experience after 6 years on Merseyside

Asmir Begović – Let Go

I would not be opposed to Begovic remaining at the club for next season in a coaching role.

Defenders:

Nathan Patterson – Sell

After finally getting a run in the first team at the end of the season, it is now clear the Scotland international is not cut out for Premier League football.

Michael Keane – Let Go

Despite a decent performance and a goal against Fulham in what was probably his final Everton start, I think it is highly unlikely that the club will decide to extend his contract with his current wages being as high as they are.

Mason Holgate - Let Go

I would not be surprised if he finds himself a club in the championship in the coming weeks, potentially even someone like newly-promoted Wrexham?

James Tarkowski – Keep

Despite turning 32 last year, he is still crucial to everything positive that Everton do and will almost definitely be here next season.

Jake O'Brien – Keep

It would not be surprising if the Irishman begins to start next season. He transformed his side when he came in after the departure of Sean Dyche, and his role next season should not be questioned.

Ashley Young – Let Go

My personal preference would have been to keep the veteran at the club next season due to his experience, but the club recently announced that they had failed to sign an extension with Young, and he will leave in the summer.

Vitalii Mykolenko – Keep

Even if we ended up signing a replacement, the Ukrainian should still be kept as back-up, with so much work having to be done elsewhere.

Seamus Coleman – Keep

Everton's captain will almost definitely be here next season, whether it is in a coaching or playing role is the question.

Jarrad Branthwaite – Keep

Provided Everton can keep hold of the centre half this summer, they will be in a much better position for the new season than they would be without him.

Midfielders:

Dwight McNeil – Keep

Despite missing a large part of this season through injury, he has remained one of Everton's most important players in terms of output. If he can remain fit next season, he will be essential for David Moyes' side in attacking areas.

Orel Mangala – Don't Sign

The Belgian had a good start to the season. However, his ACL tear makes any large investment into signing him a huge risk given the club's current financial situation.

Abdoulaye Doucouré – Let Go

A hugely important player, but his wages are simply too high to keep at the club any longer.

Idrissa Gana Gueye – Keep

The 35-year-old's contract is due to expire in the summer. However, he is still crucial to the Everton midfield and should at least be offered a contract for next season by the club.

James Garner – Keep

Although I don't think he is good enough to start in the Premier League, I do think Garner should be kept at the club for depth reasons.

Tim Iroegbunam – Loan

The summer signing from Aston Villa showed some moments of promise during the season. However, he still requires some development, and a loan move would do him a world of good.

Charly Alcaraz – Sign Permanently

The Argentinian has shown that he is worth the transfer fee that would be required to sign him permanently from Flamengo. He should be the first signing the Blues bring in this summer, if they are sensible.

Forwards:

Dominic Calvert-Lewin – Let Go

Following yet another season full of injuries and mediocre performances, I see no need for Everton to renew DCL's contract, especially with the wages he will likely be on as a second option.

Iliman Ndiaye – Keep

No discussion needed. One of Everton's best players this season, and should be in the team next season.

Jack Harrison – Don't Sign

A hard worker, but does not produce enough output to be worth signing permanently.

Beto – Keep

Although the striker does have his flaws, he has proven he can score goals since Moyes joined the club and should be given at least a season to prove his worth.

Youssef Chermiti – Loan

Again, a player who has had limited opportunities this season due to injury. A loan move, potentially to the championship, for next season could really help his development.

Jesper Lindstrøm – Don't Sign

Similarly to Harrison, he did not prove he could produce the output to tempt Everton into making his loan move permanent.

Armando Broja – Don't Sign

Not good enough for Everton Football Club, and far to injury prone.
